Let It Ride

Let It Ride is a game based on poker hands. The game is played like this: The player opens a round by placing three identical bets on the betting circles. The player is dealt three cards and the dealer places two community cards in the center of the table, face down. Based on the favorability of the three hole cards, the player can withdraw the first bet or "let it ride" and leave it on the table. The dealer then reveals the first community card. Now the player decides whether to withdraw the second bet. The second community card is then revealed and the hand is scored. Note that the third bet stays on the table with no option to withdraw. Also note that withdrawing the second bet is independent of what was done with the first.

Payoff and the True Odds

The player qualifies with at least a pair of tens, the payoff is determined by the quality of the hand. The skill of the player is in knowing when to stay and when to withdraw based on the cards known.

When I started writing this, I admit I didn't have much experience with this game. I played it once for about 20 minutes and lost $50 making $5 bets, at that point I decided that there were better things I could do with my money. At any rate, I did some research on line and found the table above (most of it should be second nature to a poker player, but it was reassuring to find that no one had messed up the mathematical probabilities while my back was turned) I also found (directly below the table) a statement that the hose has a 3% edge in this game. I looked at the table that is telling me that the house percentage is at least 5% and probably more, and looked at the statement and was dumbfounded! If anyone can tell me where they arrived at the 3% number using the statistics that are in the table, please post it to the Forum.

Jackpot!

There is a "jackpot" feature offered with this game as a $1 side bet, the payouts vary form casino to casino but they are invariably bad!
