Las Vegas Car Rental Information

Before you rent a car......
There are some things to consider before you rent a car in Las Vegas. Think about what you are planning to do on your trip. Are you mainly visiting for the purpose of gambling? Then you might want to consider a shuttle or a taxi. Remember when you rent a car you not only have the rental fee but they will also try to convince you that you need the insurance. In Las Vegas they have a policy at some of the rental agencies that if you are in an accident not only are you responsible for the damage but you also can be charged for the "down time" of the car while it is being repaired. In other words, you will be paying for lost revenues to the agency. Add to this the 7% sales tax and a 6% license tag fee added to the rental rates. You may find it an extra expense that you might not use that much. They might advertise a $29.95 daily fee but that can be the lowest charge after everything else is added on. If you do plan on renting it would be best to reserve a car in advance. Most agencies require the person renting the car to have a major credit card and most will require that you be 25 years old.

Don't drive away until you check......
If you are planning to drive out of the state of Nevada, check your agency. Some agencies allow you to drive only in Nevada.
Before taking the car make sure you thoroughly check it for every little bit of damage. Make sure the attendant records any dents, scratches, dings and even the smallest imperfections.
If you do not purchase their insurance they will hold you responsible for everything that is wrong with the car, even if it was something that was there before. You have to make sure that it is recorded.
Check the agency for the charge you willpay if you return the car without a full tankof gas. Most agencies charge between $4and $5 per gallon of gas. At the time you rent your car most agencies will offer you to purchase a tank of gas from them at a reduced rate (usually close to the pirce you will pay in town to fill it yourself). It is a convience but you will pay for the full tank and unless you are planning on doing alot of driving, this might not be worth while.
